Sleep well!
Sleep Well!
At a time of confusion, heightened anxiety and uncertainty, it is more important than ever to take care of yourself.
Stress is one of the biggest killers and sleep deprivation is a contributor.
A few small adjustments to your night-time routine can make all the difference.
Establish a sleep routine
Most adults need between 6 and 9 hours of sleep every night. Try and go to sleep at the same time every night and wake up at the same time every morning. Even if you have had a late night, don’t be tempted to sleep in the next day.
Wind down
We tend to live life at 100 miles an hour, but even if you are at home at the moment, the household is likely to be tense due to lockdown. It is important to find ways to relax.
Try writing a to do list for the following day
Off-loading thoughts and plans will stop them swirling around in your head.
Listen to relaxing music.
Things like classical music or nature sounds. There are plenty of sleep apps around with ideal music on.
Avoid using phones, tablets and other such devices for an hour before bed
They are more likely to stimulate you than to prepare you for sleep.
A warm bath is always a winner
Not too hot, just enough to soothe away the day’s stresses and strains.
A warm drink
Can also have the same effect, especially when it follows your bath.
The important thing here is, not how you do it, but to get plenty of good quality sleep to enable you to face each day refreshed. You may have to care for others during this next few months and you will need all of your strength.
Stay positive, stay safe and sleep well.
